I have finally got around to updating the webpage, it's still a work in progress but at least now it looks like someone cares about it, I plan to the work space broken up into different section. Like Short Films, documentaries, Promotional Videos and Music Videos. On a side note, I hoping in the next couple of days to upload a trailer for Refraction, at the moment in editing. I'm very close to a finish picture lock, then it is on to do Sound Design, Colour Correction and Colour Grading, still a lot of work, but I can now see light at the end of the tunnell. I also hoping in the next couple of days to upload a Showreel for myself and a Trailer for Refraction.

Although I felt the pre production, went well on my short film “Refraction”, evaluating it I feel certain things could have gone better. I would like discuss this through the different areas of pre production.
The first hurdle was the script, the script I was writing was becoming too complicated to be shot as a short, the only solution for this was to keep chipping away at it and refining it until it became a short film that could be shoot. Finally at draft 9, the script was ready to go into pre production. The next process was finding actors and extras, through the open auditions I was able to find the actors, the problem was trying to get as many extras as I could to make a empty bar as full as possible, this was quite difficult as I had no locations at this point and no schedule. I decided to leave this until I had more concrete details. This leads me on to the next item to be sorted, locations, due to the actors outside of Refraction work load and the amount of scenes shoot within (at least 8 scenes), I needed to find location that looked like a bar, but would be free for the whole day at the weekends. After looking at a couple of possible location, I decided that a bar function room would be the most suitable location. Unfortunately due to a very small budget and location limitation, due to transport issues , my choices became quite limited. I looked at a number of pubs within the greater bray area, finally I found one that was free and available around the dates that were available. This allowed me to lock the dates down with the pub scene in Chrissy D's on Saturday the 6th February and the Club scenes in the outdoor section on the Martello on Monday the 8th February. These dates were locked down approximately 2 weeks before shooting. Two weeks before shooting I start looking for extra, the minimum amount needed was 15 to make the bar look busy, idea I was looking for 25, I got about 10, and unfortunately closer to the date 4 of them pulled out. It was at this point I decided to make non key members of the crew, extras for during the camera rolling. In conclusion although there weren't any major problems during pre production, I do believe that more planning and details to planning at pre production stage, would have solved a lot of the minor ones. In almost every area as listed above there were minor problems, for example casting, locations, budget and script and all of these problems were fixed. But I believe a more detailed pre production would allow for a smoother running production. |
