Anyway give it a watch also give her a follow on twitter @ThereseCahill1 and youtube
Really looking forward to the fun and games we are going to have in doing more project with amazing Therese Cahill Ireland's first female "limp-up" unicorn comic. Enjoy.
Ok today we put in are Final edits for the Grad Show, next Wednesday 27th April. I happy enough with the final edit, I would like to work on the first scene a little bit more and I'm not a 100% happy with the sound. But for a 6min to 7min short, I think it is prity good. One of the exercises I was hoping to get out of the film was to shoot a short film, without any of the major rookie mistakes. (Oh there was mistakes don't get me wrong) but what I mean is to shoot a film that had a solid script and story, that had all of the shoots planned out and had good sound, in short a film that had all of the ingredients to be edited together. I happy that I got that. Another exercise I would like to see if the film was successful in, is to see if people are talking about it after the show, this is because of it's theme, this is one of the reasons that I think it's position of second on the schedule may help it. So I let you all next week what happens at the grad show.
So, 3 weeks to go till the Grad Shows, currently Refraction is at Picture Lock and sound is being worked on, I'm at present without credits it is coming in at 7min 10 seconds. I'm happy enough with how it is going but still want to get a couple of pick ups, I also need to contact the musician to see how they are getting on with the score for the film. I also got way layed with a couple of film projects during the Easter Break (which I need to keep a eye on getting involved in until Refraction is finished). All in all I am quiet happy with the progress and hope to have a finished product by this weekend, to probably be re edited again refined a little, but close to the end of the process.
I have finally got around to updating the webpage, it's still a work in progress but at least now it looks like someone cares about it, I plan to the work space broken up into different section. Like Short Films, documentaries, Promotional Videos and Music Videos. On a side note, I hoping in the next couple of days to upload a trailer for Refraction, at the moment in editing. I'm very close to a finish picture lock, then it is on to do Sound Design, Colour Correction and Colour Grading, still a lot of work, but I can now see light at the end of the tunnell. I also hoping in the next couple of days to upload a Showreel for myself and a Trailer for Refraction.
Although I felt the pre production, went well on my short film “Refraction”, evaluating it I feel certain things could have gone better. I would like discuss this through the different areas of pre production.
The first hurdle was the script, the script I was writing was becoming too complicated to be shot as a short, the only solution for this was to keep chipping away at it and refining it until it became a short film that could be shoot. Finally at draft 9, the script was ready to go into pre production.
The next process was finding actors and extras, through the open auditions I was able to find the actors, the problem was trying to get as many extras as I could to make a empty bar as full as possible, this was quite difficult as I had no locations at this point and no schedule. I decided to leave this until I had more concrete details. This leads me on to the next item to be sorted, locations, due to the actors outside of Refraction work load and the amount of scenes shoot within (at least 8 scenes), I needed to find location that looked like a bar, but would be free for the whole day at the weekends. After looking at a couple of possible location, I decided that a bar function room would be the most suitable location. Unfortunately due to a very small budget and location limitation, due to transport issues , my choices became quite limited. I looked at a number of pubs within the greater bray area, finally I found one that was free and available around the dates that were available. This allowed me to lock the dates down with the pub scene in Chrissy D's on Saturday the 6th February and the Club scenes in the outdoor section on the Martello on Monday the 8th February. These dates were locked down approximately 2 weeks before shooting.
Two weeks before shooting I start looking for extra, the minimum amount needed was 15 to make the bar look busy, idea I was looking for 25, I got about 10, and unfortunately closer to the date 4 of them pulled out. It was at this point I decided to make non key members of the crew, extras for during the camera rolling.
In conclusion although there weren't any major problems during pre production, I do believe that more planning and details to planning at pre production stage, would have solved a lot of the minor ones. In almost every area as listed above there were minor problems, for example casting, locations, budget and script and all of these problems were fixed. But I believe a more detailed pre production would allow for a smoother running production.
So here we are on the homeward stretch of shooting the short film. Filming will start at 10 am on Saturday Morning at Chrissy D's Bar and Lounge (upstairs in there Function room). Cast, Crew and Extras are all sorted Script and gear are all at hand, shoot list in hand I think I'm ready to go. Saturday will be a big day filming wise as we are hoping to get the majority of the film done with a 12 hour window, a Total of 7 scenes, but thankfully all are in the same location and all indoors. There are smaller days Sunday 1 or 2 (outdoor) scenes and on Monday 3 scenes (semi outdoor). Possible
Two weeks to go and then shooting starts on Refraction. Everything appears to be on track, locations are locked down, just awaiting conformation on one. I should have it on Tuesday. The finally Draft of the Script is complete. Cast, Crew and extras are all ready to go. Shooting Schedule will be completed by this weekend. My main concern at the moment is actually props and costume, I need to have 3 face book type pages made up as a prop for 3 of the characters, I also need to sort out 2 of the 5 costumes, a secondary concern is finances, the budget is really tight at the moment, ie €0.00, I hoping in 2 weeks to have enough cash to pay for, some props, food for everyone and travel expenses. Below is the locations of "Derelict House" in final scene.
Ok we have had the first read through, it went really well, a small amount of editing on the dialogue is needed. On the location front, we have the smoking section location (Martello Smoking Section) and I waiting to hear back from the Backbar (Porterhouse), if that falls through I have two more options Jim Doyles or Chrissy D's. Also the dates of shooting have changed to 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Febraury 2016. So getting there
